Gen. Uba's death: If I were President, I would order the military to occupy Borno State or any state under siege by bandits or armed groups - Atiku Abubakar

  I am deeply saddened and extremely shocked and disturbed by news making the rounds of the killing of Brig. Gen. Musa Uba by terrorists and the failure of the military hierarchy to clearly explain how it happened or what went wrong, as initial official denials indicated that this was not the case. This for me is unequivocally a failure of political leadership as the President seems only more interested in decimating the opposition by all means possible, while forgetting his crucial role as Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces. Gen. Musa's death along with the deaths of some of the troops he was leading is one death too many and a bold terrorist resurgence our dear country can not afford. I urge all citizens and our military leaders to take heart, as even this season shall pass away. [Uyo, 18th Nov 2025] By Charles Bassey All is now set for the kick-off of the zonal football competition in Ikono Ibom Clan, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The draws for the inaugural Ikono Ibom Development Union zonal competition were held on Sunday at the Secondary Commercial school, Ikot Oku, Ikono, with 6 teams discovering their group-stage opponents. The lively ceremony was winnessed the National President of Ikono Ibom Development, Akparawa Mike Essien, Development union's Director of sport, Uwem Andrew, Director Media and External Communications, Dr. Charles Bassey, other members of the EXCO and the representatives of the six teams from the two wards (8 & 9) in the clan were present and witnessed the draws. Activist in Delta State petitions IG over police brutality, killings

A human rights activist, Mr. Victor Ojei, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, demanding urgent action over recent cases of alleged police brutality and excessive use of force in Delta State.   The petition, was made available to journalists in Asaba on Sunday was also circulated to the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.   In the document, Mr. Ojei, who is the Director General of the Young Nigerian Rights Organization, expressed deep concern over what he described as a troubling pattern of police misconduct, leading to the loss of innocent lives and severe injuries to citizens.   He highlighted specific incidents, stating, “These tragic events include, but are not limited to: the killing of a 17-year-old boy by a trigger-happy officer in Ozoro on December 6, 2024; the shooting of Nollywood cameraman, Don Oneopar...

BREAKING: Chief of Army Staff, Lagbaja, dies at 56

    The Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, is dead.   This was confirmed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.   In the statement titled ‘Announcement of the Passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja,’ Onanuga said Lagbaja died on Tuesday night in Lagos after a period of illness.   The statement reads, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, regrets to announce the passing of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of the Army Staff, at age 56. “President Tinubu expresses his heartfelt condolences to the family and the Nigerian Armed Forces during this difficult time. He wishes Lt. NLC BOSS, JOE AJAERO, RELEASED AFTER HONORING POLICE INVITATION

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has been released after visiting the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) Headquarters today, August 29. Ajaero was invited by the police last week to answer questions on alleged involvement in terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony. He arrived at the IRT premises at 10:17 am alongside his legal team, including Femi Falana, SAN, and other senior NLC officials. Ajaero's release comes after a brief interrogation, and the NLC has confirmed his return to the NLC headquarters. The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead CBSnewsTrend gathered that CP Ayilara died early this morning, Thursday, 29 August 2024 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja. The Akwa Ibom state police commissioner was said to have gone for prostate cancer surgery which took place on Wednesday, 28 August, 2024 before he eventually died early Thursday, 29 August, 2024. Colleagues told CBSnewsTrend that he was hale and hearty on Monday, 26 August 2024, during the pullout ceremony for Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yetunde Longe. Reports say he walked into the hospital on Wednesday for the surgery but unfortunately did not make it. Following Islamic rites, he will be buried today, Thursday, 29 August 2024.
