Uyo Council Boss donates Waste Disposal Truck to Akpan Andem Market


….17-man Revenue Committee kicks off assignment






Following the inauguration of the Uyo Investment and Revenue Committee, Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Elder Imoh Okon delivered a newly purchased refuse evacuation truck to the 17-man revenue committee to be used for daily evacuation of waste in Akpan Andem Market.

Elder Okon while embarking on an inspection of the market shortly before the handing over of the utility waste disposal truck expressed satisfaction over the corporation of traders of the market in the current restructuring by his administration. He also restated his commitment to returning the market to its original state as a city market.

The council Boss who stated that the truck was to be used to evacuate refuse generated from within and around the market and also called on the traders in the market to make effective use of the truck in order to keep the market clean.

While flagging off the daily evacuation of waste in the market, Elder Imoh Okon said the truck which would evacuate waste at least 5 times daily while it would be stationed permanently in the market.

Meanwhile, more than 70% of traders who displayed commodities on the access of road of the market have relocated to the designated platform sheds and stalls allotted to them.
It is expected that in the next week no trader would be found on pathway, pavements and access routes into the market as all would have been appropriately relocated to the platforms inside the market.

For the time being, the 17-man Revenue Committee set up by the Uyo Local Government Chairman on Tuesday 30th January has since resumed work at its corporate office located on No. 155 Ikot Ekpene Road.

The Committee which is headed by a former Secretary of Uyo Local Government Council, Hon. Chris Etim is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing all Internally Generated Revenues in Uyo Local Government Area.

Among those who make up the committee are Mr. Emmanuel Sampson, Hon. Nse Ndoh, Hon. Unwana Young, Elder Ini Nyong, Mr. Emmanuel Gibson, Mrs. Emem Chinedu among others.
