UYO BROADCAST JOURNALIST BRUTALIZED BY PHED AGENTS AND ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL ATTACHED TO THEM

35 YEARS AFTER: REMEMBERING DELE GIWA, NIGERIA'S HERO OF JOURNALISM

October 19 remains an indelible date in the memory of many Nigerians especially the media practitioners for that was the day Mr. Dele Giwa, co-founder of Newswatch Magazine was assassinated. Although many Nigerians remember him, some, especially the younger generation just hear the name but don’t know who he was. Dele Giwa, a foremost Nigerian journalist, was killed by a parcel bomb at 11.40 a.m. on Sunday, October 19, 1986, in his house at number 25B Talabi Street off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos, after receiving a parcel in a light-brown envelope from his 19-year-old son, Billy. It’S 34 years today since the flaming journalist, Dele Giwa, was killed via a parcel bomb, a novel manner of assassination. The question today remains unanswered: Who killed Dele Giwa? AKWA IBOM YOUTHS JOIN PROTESTS TO END SARS

Hundreds of Youths yesterday evening converged of the Nwaniba on the Water fountain round About by Four lanes in Uyo the Akwa Ibom state Capital in continuation of the protest against police brutality Tagged #ENDSARS. The Youths made up of mostly students of Taitary institutions in the state were joined by some celebrities forced traffic along the Busy Nwaniba-Four Lane intersection to a stand still for hours. Some of those who spoke to our correspondent Charles Bassey said they were not satisfied with the actions taken by the Inspector General on SARS as it was not the first time such actions and promises were made over their brutal excesses. PHONE THIEF NABBED AT #End SARS PROTEST IN LAGOS

#EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate area of Lagos on Saturday nabbed and handed over a co-protester, for stealing a phone. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer at the Lagos State Command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Sunday, the protesters who were angry about the incident descended on him and beat him up, before they agreed to hand him over to the police at Maroko Police Station. Adejobi, however, noted that the stolen phone has not been recovered as the suspect passed it on to his fleeing gang members. He said the Force is working on the useful information gathered from him to track down his gang members who are at large.

AKWA IBOM-TRINIDAD & TOBAGO STRENGTHEN TIES

Akwa Ibom State Government is to collaborate with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, to develop the proposed industrial park in the state. Governor Udom Emmanuel gave the indication when theHigh Commissionerof the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Nigeria, Mr Wendell Carlton De Landro, visited him at the Government House, Uyo. The governor said the state government is providing infrastructures in the industrial park noting that over thirty industries are expected in the estate. The governor appealed to the High Commissioner of the Trinidad and Tobago and other international investors to consider investing in the state as the state government has provided an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Governor Emmanuel hinted that the state-owned Ibom Airlines will soon commence international flights when the Terminal at the Victor Attah International Airport is completed.
